AGM sees committee shuffle
At the AGM held during rehearsal last evening (the 12th December) thanks were given to Liz, who stepped down as Marketing and Communications Officer some little while ago, and to Susan who stepped down as Secretary at the meeting.
Jenny Nichols volunteered to take over as secretary and was elected unopposed, thank you Jenny, and Carol Green was similarly elected as Marketing and Communications officer. For anyone who doesn’t know, I’m Carol and I also run the website, so this is my first ‘communication’ in my new role.
Everyone at the AGM agreed that one of our mains aims as we begin a new year is to encourage new members, particularly in the string section and I have a few ideas, but would welcome any and all suggestions from members.
We also discussed the difference in the number of people and amount of work required, depending on whether we’re just running as an orchestra (4 committee members meeting occasionally is plenty) and when we are organising concerts etc. (rather more work and organising to do).
Everyone agreed that rather than create more permenant committee positions, it would be more efficient to ask for volunteers as required to organise concerts and other events (something like a small one-off working party with an event co-ordinator heading it up), so if you are willing to volunteer on an occasional basis then this is for you. We will post ‘help wanted’ ads as and when we need to, but it would also be useful if anyone could let us know that they are willing to be asked.
I am pleased to report that Susan Jones has already volunteered to help out on that basis, so thank you Susan.
I would also like to ask if any other member(s) are willing and able to babysit the website for short periods if I’m away on hols or poorly. Usually there’s nothing so urgent it can’t wait, but equally it would be nice to know that the site can always be kept current. Please contact me if you can help with that or any of the above.
All that remains it for me to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday Season and all the best for a great New Year. May peace and prosperity find their way to us all.
Carol
